Rededication

June: National Donor Memorial Rededication

 

On June 21, 2010, UNOS hosted a ceremony to reflect the seven year anniversary of the establishment of the national memorial built to honor the hundreds of thousands of organ and tissue donors and their family through their generous Gift of Life. The anniversary celebration symbolizes the completion of most of the major features of the original design of the Design Committee.

 

The key note speaker was the first Lady of Virginia, Maureen McDonnell, who shared her own personal story with organ and tissue donation.

 

The event also included the presentation of the first Annual National Donor Memorial Award of Excellence. Established by UNOS, this annual award for excellence is given to “an unsung hero” who has gone above and beyond in promoting organ donation.
